My Feet Are the Coolest Thing I've Ever Seen!!

That is what my son is saying now...he's so sweet. He found his feet last thursday and all he wants to do is look at them and try to put them in his mouth! His favorite toy is attached to his body which is great because he's always entertained! We got him an Excersaucer today! He's played in one at his Grandparent's house, so I plopped him in it and went to through a load of laundry in (which is 2 meters from where he was playing) and he started crying...I guess he got scared of all the music and lights!! So I grabbed...let him settle down and then we played with it again and he was loving it!! He had the cutest excited face ever!!

My foot is not quite as cool as Max's, but I'm not limping anymore which is a bonus. I'm on the elliptical for a couple of weeks. I've had two elliptical workouts this week and what can say....boring!! It's not near as fun as running but on the upside I got to watch Jon and Kate Plus 8!!

Had a great bike last night with the group last night! And then a potluck with the team...and Carmen's Lemon Merengue Pie was Too Die For!!

One Step Back!

I've been in denial since last tuesday. I was doing a hill workout on the treadmill and when I finished my foot was so sore, but I limped over to do my weights and finished my workout. The rest of the week it was so sore, but I just kept on thinking that I "tweaked" something. I did my longer run on sunday and my foot was not impressed...so it must be my orthotics...right?!?! I made an appointment to get my orthotics fixed up. But unfortunately I'm still limping around today and I've had at least two stress fractures before and I'm pretty sure this is one too (I'll find out for sure on monday). Unfortunately that means missing my first "race" of the year...the Police Half Marathon...it's a great course around the Glenmore Reservoir. So I'm on the elliptical for a while and this will give me a chance to get in some really good rides and maybe even an extra swim!

It's been a busy week! We're trying to sell our condo and we've had quite a few walk throughs but since the Bank of Canada has lowered their interest rates we've had even that many more requests...at least we have a really clean house :-)

New Watch

I got this fancy new watch for my birthday...it does speed, distance, time, heart rate, as well as make my toast and brew my coffee!! I was so excited to do my long run (2 hours today) to see how far and fast I was going. And it turns out that I'm not running as fast as I use to pre-pregnancy and pre-year before (stress fracture year) and it was kind of a bummer. As I was running I was trying to keep a certain pace and then I would check my heart rate and realize it was well beyong the zone 1-2 where it was suppose to be...so I would back off a bit and then my competitiveness would take over and I would have to pick the pace up again!

I really figured that after having Max I would be back to where I was pre-baby in a couple of months...boy was I wrong! I guess it's going to take some time to get my speed and conditioning back. I had heard that new mom's have increased aerobic conditioning and often come out of childbirth in better shape...I wish I would fallen into that group! I guess Patience is the key...not necessarily my strong point :-)

On a high note though...Max had a huge nap while I ran (Grandma, Grandpa and Aunty were babysitting) so I didn't have to miss a smile.

This is my first time writing...as a mom on maternity leave I probably have too much time on my hands so I've started following some blogs of ladies in the same circumstance as me and I find them motivating...there are other women out there who love training for tri but only have certain times in the day when it now fits in. I use to be able to fit my training in whenever I wanted...it was so easy! With an understanding boyfriend (now husband) my only obligation was my regular job, and cleaning the bathroom once a week, so I could swim, bike and run as much as I wanted (as a side note there has never been that much swimming because it's not that much fun)!

Things have definitely changed but for the better...we now have a beautiful baby boy who is the light of my life!! He smiles, and giggles, and tells me the most hilarious stories! But I still like to get my training in...well I still have to because I signed up to Ironman Canada for a 2nd time. At the time, as a childless person I had no idea how things would change...I thought it would be easy to train whenever I wanted. Boy was I wrong...thank goodness I still have an understanding husband who helps me fit things in, and understanding parents who love to babysit because fitting training in is tough.

So through this blog I will share with you my ups and downs being a mom while I train for IMC!!
